Healing Justice Programs

Still We Rise

Still We Rise is our school-based healing and resilience program for youth affected by parental removal due to incarceration, detention, or deportation. In this near-peer facilitated program, students begin to build community with peers in a safe space, learn to identify how systems of oppression show up in their lives, and are empowered to engage in direct action at school and in their community. Still We Rise meets weekly on high school campuses across Austin.

Participants explore different tools for healing using hands-on art activities, presentations from experts, and group based conversations. YGWG was developed in response to student feedback on the struggles they were facing due to Covid-19 and virtual school.

Conversations with healers: A Listening project

Healers Listening Project is a series of interviews with western medical doctors, researchers, nurses, and traditional healers hosted by Youth Rise Texas. These conversations explore how to improve the way the medical field supports POC youth, what a vision for healing-centered schools might look like, and ways to shift to meet the mental health needs of young people during Covid-19, virtual school, and other crises.
